Emily Rust

Emily is deeply inspired to support people and organisations to be ‘better’.

Whether this means identifying and tackling the thorny challenges that might be holding them back, or working out how to fine tune their approach from an already ‘well’ base, she firmly believes that nothing sits idle for long, and there is always room for learning and growth – “the best work you’ll do in life is work on yourself and the environments you occupy”.

As a Registered Industrial/Organisational Psychologist, Emily has spent over 12 years consulting to a range of small to large enterprises across the public and private sectors in New Zealand and Australia. She has extensive experience advising organisations on the design and implementation of strategic programmes of work related to change and continuous improvement, and has worked across all levels of organisations – from assisting CEOs with building cohesive, dynamic and well-functioning executive teams, to conducting qualitative and quantitative research within all layers and verticals of businesses to inform people strategy and culture change.

In the organisational wellbeing space, Emily believes that managing psychosocial risk factors, building resilience, and developing a strong performance culture is the output of a complex system of practices, habits and norms that can seem relatively straightforward once they are known and working but, if not, can be completely overwhelming to work out where to even start. Emily prides herself on understanding the unique people, context and needs of a business, and recommending fit-for-purpose solutions that make an impact, and stick.

With a solid background in personality assessment and leadership development, a special interest of Emily’s is promoting individual and organisational wellbeing through developing leaders’ self-awareness and personal impact, to better role model and influence wellbeing around them at work. Through her work coaching individuals, she sees even subtle shifts in a person’s self-awareness and mindset have far-reaching effects on their confidence, sense of purpose, wellbeing and leadership efficacy.

Although a psychologist at heart and in practice, Emily has also spent time co-leading a group of commonly-held enterprises through business administration, recovery and divestment processes. She takes a commercial, top-down approach to evaluating what’s ideally needed and what’s possible in any given context, and believes the right type of investment in an organisation’s people and culture is an essential ingredient for lasting success.
