The research is pretty clear―when someone is struggling, the support of another human being is one of the most helpful things. Particularly if that other person is respected and trusted. In the harder moments of our own lives, it’s often the company and compassion of someone we trust and respects that gets us through it. Unfortunately, stress can also lead us to pull away from others and this pulling away can become a vicious cycle. We feel stressed and alone, so pull away, then feel more stressed and alone.
