Stay active all year round

It’s cold, raining, windy, dark in the mornings and dark leaving work. Winter can be a tough time for many people. Keeping exercise going presents a challenge when the urge to hibernate until spring is strong. It’s common also to notice a drop in mood and to feel low in energy and enthusiasm.

Tough as it is, get out there and get active. This is a time to mobilise your support crew and make being physical fun and social. Think outside the square and come up with fresh ideas to get everyone moving. Try dance classes or a new class at the gym. Book indoor courts for tennis, squash or bowling. Find the nearest indoor pool, or take your family skating. Getting outdoors despite the weather is also a good pick me up, rug up and remind yourself of all the benefits. Enjoy the reward of the hot shower and increased energy afterward.
