Balancing work and other areas of life

Most people seem to agree that some kind of balance or equilibrium between the various aspects of our lives is the ideal and something to strive for. But “work-life balance” is not some kind of defined state we get to and occupy forever. It’s more a work in progress than a long-lasting achievement. And every person’s sense of work-life balance is different.

Technological advancements have made flexible working arrangements more possible but have also made it easier for work demands to intrude into family and personal life, and vice versa.

There are three areas we can focus on to help us keep a good equilibrium between work and other aspects of our lives, and to help us maintain our wellbeing:

  1. Prioritise recovery
  2. Use effective productivity strategies
  3. Pay attention to what gives us an overall sense of life satisfaction.
